BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Know what to look for

Compare the service, the evidence behind its claims, and the terms that matter to your family.

A public listing is not a recommendation. Claimed details come from the owner. Read an individual audit to understand the scope and date of any verified checks; a badge is not a guarantee of service.

RULES & SOURCE GUIDANCE

Understand which requirements apply

Different residential settings provide different levels of care. Compare the actual services and contract, and check the applicable state facility records rather than relying on the name of the residence. National Institute on Aging: residential care options.

Check the applicable facility type and inspection resources. An independent-living residence should not be assumed to hold a nursing-home license. Missouri DHSS: nursing homes and long-term care.

This is introductory guidance, not a complete review of every Missouri or local rule. A source may describe national guidance or professional standards rather than a legal requirement. Explore Missouri guidance.

PARTINGPOINT STANDARDS · PROPOSED FOR REVIEW

The evidence we propose requiring

These are our proposed review criteria, separate from legal requirements. Publishing them does not certify existing listings or change their badges.

Inspection and staffing evidence
Match the facility to dated inspection reports and staffing information; record unresolved findings.
Resident care and rights
Review care planning, family communication and the complaint process.
Identity and relevant credentials
Record the responsible business or organization and service area. Check applicable licenses with the issuer and distinguish mandatory permissions from voluntary training or membership.
Clear terms and a contact for concerns
Keep dated service terms, charges or eligibility information, cancellation arrangements where relevant, and a named route for questions and complaints.

Keep evidence current

Record the source, date checked, scope and any expiry. Missing evidence remains unverified. We propose rechecking dated or expiring information and removing affected verification claims when evidence is no longer valid. These are proposed editorial controls, not an automated renewal system.

Payment or claiming a listing does not satisfy these checks. Any future recommendation would require separately published criteria.

QUESTIONS TO ASK

A useful starting conversation

  • What did the latest inspection find, and what changed afterward?
  • Who coordinates care and handles a concern on evenings or weekends?

Public record: gathered from public sources. Claimed: provider information reported by the owner. Verified audit: a separate completed audit. More reviews or higher ratings do not mean a provider has been audited. Placement is never sold.
