A public listing is not a recommendation. Claimed details come from the owner. A verified badge refers to the checks recorded in that business’s audit, not a guarantee of every service or future performance.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS & OFFICIAL GUIDANCE

Start with the rules that apply to this service

Check the funeral establishment and the responsible professional with Missouri’s Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. Match the licensed identity and location to the business you are hiring. Missouri Board of Embalmers & Funeral Directors.

For covered funeral providers, the FTC Funeral Rule requires itemized price information and specific disclosures. Families can select the goods and services they want, subject to applicable requirements. Ask for the General Price List and a written itemized statement of selected arrangements. FTC Funeral Rule.

This is a starting point, not a complete statement of every state or local rule. Confirm unusual arrangements and exemptions with the responsible regulator. More guidance for Missouri.

PARTINGPOINT STANDARDS · PROPOSED FOR REVIEW

The evidence we propose requiring for verification

These are PartingPoint’s proposed review criteria, separate from legal requirements. They do not retroactively certify any listing or change an existing badge.

Identity & applicable licenses
Regulator records matching the establishment, location and responsible licensed professional, including status and any published restrictions relevant to the service.
Transparent prices & choices
Dated General Price List and other applicable price lists, plus a sample itemized statement. Review required disclosures and how optional purchases are explained.
Authorization & care arrangements
Sample authorization forms and written procedures identifying who may authorize arrangements, how identity is documented and which outside providers handle any services.
Written terms & family contact
An understandable agreement covering selected services, third-party charges, payment and cancellation terms, plus a named contact and a way to raise concerns.

How evidence would stay current

Each check should record the source or issuer, reviewer, date checked, applicable scope and expiry when one exists. Missing evidence is “not verified”; an exemption needs a recorded basis. The proposed policy is to recheck expiring evidence before renewal and suspend the affected verification claim if evidence expires, is withdrawn or no longer matches the service. These renewal and suspension controls are proposed, not an automated system already in place.

Payment or claiming a listing does not satisfy these checks. Any future “recommended” designation would need separately published criteria.

Questions for your family’s arrangements

  • Can we keep a copy of your price lists and an itemized estimate before choosing?
  • Which purchases are optional, and what is the basis for anything described as required?
  • Who will care for our relative, and which services are handled elsewhere?
  • Who can authorize the arrangements, and who is our contact if plans change?

Public record: gathered from public sources. Claimed: provider information reported by the owner. Verified audit: a separate completed audit. More reviews or higher ratings do not mean a provider has been audited. Placement is never sold.
