What do you need valued?
A building and its contents may need different appraisers.
Start with what needs a value—and why
List property, household belongings and any business interests separately. An estate-sale estimate or an offer to buy is not the same service as an independent appraisal.
- Which assets can you appraise, and which need another specialist?
- What information do you need to define the work and prepare a fee estimate?
- Who will use the report, and what valuation date and deadline should we agree on?
For every appraisal: agree on fees, travel charges, a written scope and the report delivery date before work starts.
These choices tailor the questions, not the listings below. Individual specialties and travel areas are not yet confirmed in our records; check them with each provider.
Need to sell belongings instead?
A buyer’s offer, an auction estimate and an independent appraisal serve different purposes. Ask which service you are receiving.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Know what to look for
Compare the service, the evidence behind its claims, and the terms that matter to your family.
A public listing is not a recommendation. Claimed details come from the owner. Read an individual audit to understand the scope and date of any verified checks; a badge is not a guarantee of service.

RULES & SOURCE GUIDANCE
Understand which requirements apply
Personal-property qualifications and real-estate licensing are different. Check the credential issuer and the property specialty. USPAP describes appraisal standards; citing it is not, by itself, proof of an appraiser’s credential. The Appraisal Foundation: personal property appraisal.
This is introductory guidance, not a complete review of every Missouri or local rule. A source may describe national guidance or professional standards rather than a legal requirement. Explore Missouri guidance.
PARTINGPOINT STANDARDS · PROPOSED FOR REVIEW
The evidence we propose requiring
These are our proposed review criteria, separate from legal requirements. Publishing them does not certify existing listings or change their badges.
- Relevant qualifications
- Identify the property specialty, applicable license or credential and its issuer; USPAP is a standard, not a credential by itself.
- Independent written valuation
- Specify intended users, valuation date, method, report scope and conflicts of interest.
- Identity and relevant credentials
- Record the responsible business or organization and service area. Check applicable licenses with the issuer and distinguish mandatory permissions from voluntary training or membership.
- Clear terms and a contact for concerns
- Keep dated service terms, charges or eligibility information, cancellation arrangements where relevant, and a named route for questions and complaints.
Keep evidence current
Record the source, date checked, scope and any expiry. Missing evidence remains unverified. We propose rechecking dated or expiring information and removing affected verification claims when evidence is no longer valid. These are proposed editorial controls, not an automated renewal system.
Payment or claiming a listing does not satisfy these checks. Any future recommendation would require separately published criteria.
