Direct Cremation Prices: A 20-Offer Comparison

Explore 20 dated direct cremation offers, their $2,347.50 sample median and key exclusions. See why the findings are not a national or state average.

Last reviewed

Among 20 selected 2026 direct cremation offers with a supplied minimum body container and cremation fee included, the median published price was $2,347.50. The mean was $2,499.50, and the printed amounts ranged from $845 to $5,650. These figures describe this selected sample, not the United States or any state as a whole.

PartingPoint reviewed the price-list sources attached to 53 source records across 16 states on November 2, 2026. Twenty offers in 11 states met the narrower comparison rules below. Every amount remains subject to the provider’s conditions and any applicable additional charges.

What the 20-offer comparison measures

The comparison uses one printed standard adult direct or non-ceremonial cremation offer per selected record, with a funeral-home-supplied minimum body container and the cremation or crematory charge explicitly included. It does not construct a new package by adding separate line items. Where a list has general wording about excluded crematory services but expressly includes cremation in the named package, this comparison follows that specific package description. Confirm the package terms with the provider.

Where a provider separately prices online-only arrangements, the main calculation uses the standard or assisted option. Packages can still differ in collection distance, refrigeration, private identification, taxes and outside fees. This is a comparison of defined published offers, not a fully standardized final bill.

The 20 amounts total $49,990. Dividing by 20 gives the $2,499.50 mean. The two middle values are $2,300 and $2,395, giving the $2,347.50 median. The median is less affected by a single high or low amount, but it does not make a selectively collected sample representative.

The range needs its service conditions

The lowest amount in this selected group is Avenidas Funeral Chapel’s $845 option. Its May 14, 2026 list includes the minimum container and cremation, with a 25-mile collection limit, up to five days of refrigeration and additional charges above 250 pounds.

The highest is Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary’s $5,650 option, effective July 2, 2026, with a fiberboard container and cremation included. The spread between these two published offers does not establish a difference in quality, profits or the cost of delivering care.

It also does not show what a particular family would pay. The final amount depends on location, timing, required services and choices. These conditions should accompany a price whenever it is quoted or summarized.

Why we did not average all 53 records

Eight source lists have 2025 effective dates. We retained them in the source inventory but left them out of this 2026-dated comparison; that does not itself prove that a provider has withdrawn an older list. Nine source records involve shared documents or unresolved branch applicability. Other records lack a clear minimum-container total, exclude the crematory charge, or contain wording that needs clarification.

Maryville’s price page could be read through a web reader, but direct retrieval returned an access error. No archived copy was kept, so it stayed outside this comparison, which uses only archived sources. Bunker’s Garden Chapel in Mesa and Gilbert Memorial Park are a known related pair. For this illustrative comparison, we retained the first of those two records in our inventory, Bunker’s Garden Chapel; this selection is not a price or quality ranking. Complete ownership independence has not been established for the remaining records.

These reasons can overlap. They explain why an amount was excluded from this calculation; they are not judgments about the quality of a business. Source records, unique operators and independent price observations are different measures.

Online offers change the question being answered

Adams Mason’s dated list offers $695 online versus $1,810 through its assisted Advantage option, both with an alternative container. McFarland’s list shows $1,600 online versus a $3,460 standard option; its online route excludes an in-house consultation and prepayment.

If those two online prices replace the assisted prices while everything else is held fixed, the same 20-record calculation has a mean of $2,350.75 and a median of $2,272.50. This is a sensitivity illustration, not a second market estimate. It shows why the arrangement channel must be stated before a price comparison is summarized.

Why this is not a regional price ranking

The full inventory covers 16 states, while the selected numerical sample covers 11. The selected state groups have only one to three offers each and were not sampled randomly. The fact that a low offer appears in one state and a high offer in another cannot support a claim that one region is generally cheaper.

A defensible regional study would first define comparable packages, identify related operators, verify branch applicability and deliberately recruit a broader set of providers within each region. It would publish the number and distribution of observations alongside every regional figure. Until then, local examples are useful; regional averages would suggest more coverage than this collection has.

How to use these findings

Use the comparison to ask better questions, not to predict a bill. Request the same arrangement from each provider, including the minimum body container and crematory charge, and ask for the included mileage and refrigeration period. Have the provider identify any remaining required and optional charges.

For future research, the most useful next step is to resolve unclear package terms and branch applicability before expanding the calculations. A larger number of collected links alone does not create a reliable national average.

Questions families ask

What was the average direct cremation price in this comparison?

The mean was $2,499.50 and the median was $2,347.50 among 20 selected 2026-dated offers. Those are sample statistics, not national or state averages. Individual package conditions and extra charges still apply.

Were all 53 candidates included in the average?

No. All 53 source entries were screened, but 20 offers met the narrower comparison rules. Older dates, unclear inclusions, shared-branch issues and other exclusions are retained in the research inventory.

Does the published price include every charge?

No. The selected offers explicitly include a minimum body container and cremation or crematory charge, but transport limits, care limits, taxes and other fees can still affect the final bill.

Which state is cheapest?

This collection cannot answer that. The selected state groups contain only one to three offers and are not representative state samples. Use the examples to ask local providers for comparable written estimates.
